grandmother's silver bowl

Postby karrma » Mon Nov 23, 2015 10:03 pm

I need help in identifying (admin edit) for this bowl, as am executor for my mom. The mark is F.W. Whiting, I believe, and it is marked "sterling" but no 925 stamp, instead there is a number 6612. Also, there is a very faint F marked there, and did not see that listed under the Whiting marks for dates. My grandmother owned it originally, and she lived from 1890 to 1981. The Whiting stamp is a W in a circle, with three sheaves or sticks behind. I have pictures, but do not know how to load an image, even after reading the FAQs. It is a candy dish, footed, with a hinged handle, with cut-outs pattern, waved edges, very good to excellent condition. About 7 inches by 3 inches bowl, and 2 inch pedestal.

Image Grandma's bowl

Image Mark 1, you can see a faint F inscribed between the mark and the sterling.

Image Mark 2, I think it is 6612, but could be something else.

Thank you, I did see some info on another newbie question, showing how to post pictures.

It is a piece by Whiting; the sterling stamp is the quality mark; the 6612 is possibly the model number. As for value that would not be proper on the forum.
