Sterling Silver Compote--Who Made This?

Postby ppauline » Thu Jun 15, 2006 2:40 am

I have this sterling silver Compote which I can not seem to identify. The piece stands 7 Inches in height, the upper bowl portion is 6 Inches in diameter.
The bottom is marked withW and R in an elongated oval; in the center of the oval is an old english "E" contained within a circle. underneath is the writing "Sterling, 114B and weighted"
Any help would surely be appreciated as I have searched for many days now.

That mark was used by the William R. Elfers Company, New York, New York. In business first half 20th century.

WOW!
Thank You so very Much! You even took the time to post photos as well...you are too kind!
I'll remember you in my prayers tonight!
I never would have found that!
Is there some reference book that you would recommend? I have just begun to go through my grandmothers boxes from way back when and most likely should have a reference book here.
Thanks Again!

You are welcome.
Found the mark in Dorothy Rainwater's " Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers", 4th edition.

Pat.
