Need help ID'ing Maker's Mark on Sterling & Glass Piece

Postby imagal49 » Sat Jun 10, 2006 4:49 pm

Recently acquired this piece with a sterling base, but have been unable to locate maker's mark in either Rainwater or online under Sheffield or Reed & Barton (who purchased them after 1950). The last two items in the hallmark resemble that of Sheffield Silver Co. (New York) but the first image is wrong as far as we can tell, although there is much wear to the mark so it may have been worn off. The last item in the mark is definately a stylized 'S' under magnification. The piece measures 12 1/2" wide at the top and 4 1/2" high. Any help with manufacturer, pattern or dating appreciated. All we know is the owner inherited it from her grandmother and puts the age at 90++ years old. These photos will enlarge (clickable). Thanks so much.
