1890 Gorham Vanity Set - Pattern or Set Name ??

Postby cogito » Sun May 28, 2006 5:03 am

My wife and I just purchased an antique Gorham vanity set as a gift for our daughter, in part because the initials on the piece match hers and because we thought the motif was charming and appropriate for a 12-year-old girl.

Using the Gorham date mark guide here, I was able to determine that the vanity set was made in 1890 based upon the "rooster" mark. I'm assuming that the "255" after the word STERLING represents the production or model number, but I'm not certain.

I'm interested to know if there is a model name for this particular vanity set and if it is known who the silversmith was who made the design? Also, how many of this set were produced?

My daughter is a budding collector, so having any added information to accompany her upcoming gift would be most appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jeff
