These are pretty modern. Marked "France" but also marked Sterling. So maybe the silver tips were added somewhere else? Any ideas what Web means?

Hi

Have a look at Web under American marks.

http://www.925-1000.com/americansilver_W.html

Web made a good number of sterling photo frames, sterling weighted candlesticks, and sterling rimmed glass compotes in the 1950s-1960s. Usually the sterling is the lesser part of the product.

Most likely the salad servers were made in France specifically on order by Web, who then added the sterling tips before marketing them in the US.

I have the same set with a matching sterling based mahogany salad bowl in a modernist shape - a number of mid 20th century American silver manufacturers produced similar silver-mounted sets, including servers, bowl and individual bowls.

I guess it says something about me that I consider mid-century 1960's to be "pretty modern". The matching bowl would make a nice set. Thanks for the help.
