Question Regarding a Tankard / Beer Mug

Postby kevalie » Thu Feb 14, 2013 10:16 pm

Recently acquired a sterling silver tankard / beer mug, and tried to find out as much information about it as possible. Unfortunately apart from 'Sterling Silver' there is no other markings, and now I am not even sure if it was made in America and the design looks to be George II period. Would be great if someone can give me any information regarding this piece, ie whom, when and where it was made

another question is whether it is common for a piece to just have the 'sterling silver' marking on it and nothing else?

Not much to go on, but it may be fair to say that sterling silver is unsual for an American marking. Usually it is just sterling.

Just found that it's likely the tankard was made in Australia, that's probably why it has 'Sterling Silver' instead of just 'Sterling' as oppose to US.
