Crescent Moon and Star Mark - Need Help

Postby phxhist » Tue Jan 31, 2006 11:16 pm

Does anyone recognize the moon and star mark with H & F below on this spoon? Same spoon without enamel is marked 'H. F. Vantilburg' who was a jeweler in Phoenix Arizona in the 1890s. Thanks.

I believe your moon and star mark was used by the Manhattan Silver Plate Company located in Lyons, New York. They were incorporated in 1877 as the successor to the Manhattan Plating Company. They became part of the International Silver Company in 1898. This mark was not used after 1904.

Thank you for the suggestion. I agree the Manhattan mark is similar but the arrangement of the moon and star differs and I think they probably represent separate manufacturers. Also, the spoon is sterling and not plate. I sincerely appreciate your help as I was not aware of the Manhattan mark and its similarity to the spoon's mark.
