Sterling S/P Shaker marked M inside C & possible date C?

I have searched and searched and my eyes are going to be damaged soon! I have a sterling silver salt or pepper shaker with 3 slipper feet.

It has what appears to be a makers mark of initials...the letter M inside the letter C.

Then there is what appears to be a date stamp...a lion's head perhaps (?) inside the letter C again.

It is also stamped STERLING.

My best guess is Charles Mappin, but his stamp was the letters C M together and I've not found this other "date stamp" anywhere in conjunction with his makers mark.

I've searched all countries, by name, by initial, by date stamp and by unidentified....any help would be immensely appreciated!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The lion in a C mark is probably Canadian.

Can't find the CM maker's mark in my references.

Wow, thanks for that! At least I can start researching in the right country and time period now.

No luck on the CM though, huh? Well at least I know I'm not crazy for not being able to find it!

I appreciate your input, thanks very much.

It is only a hunch, but the mark may be for M. Cochenthaler, a Montreal jeweler and retailer of silver goods.

If you leave your images in place, then an answer often comes eventually.

This is the work of William Maurice Carmichael of Victoria, British Columbia.
