Sterling Corn Cob Candlesticks Attributed - Tom K Joe Navajo

Postby fineliz » Thu Jun 18, 2009 10:30 pm

Hello, I have this old and magnificent pair of Corn Cob & Stalk candlesticks. I was told they are probably attributed to Tom K. Joe A Navajo Silversmith Ft. Defiance, Arizona Region. I cannot seem to come up with any info or time period on this maker.
Any Help would be so appreciated.
Thanks, Elizabeth

Hello and welcome.

Fine looking candlesticks.
Barton Wright's book says Tom K. Joe began stamping his initials in 1/16 gothic print in 1974.
Don't know if he made candlestick holders.

Pat.

Hi Elizabeth,

Still believe that these represent Latrobe's corncob capitals for the Senate vestibule, and have a hard time seeing them as Navajo production. Seems more likely that they were made as some sort of presentation gift, perhaps by a small company or independent silversmith. Personally, would guess the mark to be 20th century.

Good to see you here!

I don't see them as NA either. Corn may be a common NA theme but that's a pretty far stretch to take these as NA.
