German heirloom bowls- need help id'ing hallmarks

Postby madeline » Mon Apr 06, 2009 5:49 pm

We have several glass bowls delicately etched on silver bases. As you can see by the photos, it looks like a man's head and 5 symbols, one is the number seven. The script capital letter could be an F or a D. I have scrolled through every mark I can find to no avail. Because they belonged to my German Grandmother and were in her cabinet since at least 1940, I have focused mainly on Germany although I did browse every country's hallmarks on this website. If anyone has any suggestions on where to continue the research, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Lucille

Hello and welcome.

That set of marks was used by the American firm "Sheffield Silver Company". Check here:

Thank you, Pat! I will inform our family of the source of these bowls. Best wishes, Lucille
