Sterling Handbag with Butterfly Makers Mark

Postby williams2008 » Thu Dec 04, 2008 5:28 pm

Hello,
I am having a hard time researching this makers mark. This is a sterling link style handbag that looks very vintage. I found the marking "Sterling" with a small butterfly. If anyone has any insite, I would surely appriciate it.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Not 100% sure, hopefully someone will confirm/deny. I believe your bag is German, made by Ernst Gideon Bek Inc. They were sold in the US by Binder Bros., Inc. before WWI. During WWI their stock in the US was seized and purchased after the war by Binders.

Trev.
