Help-Mark on Sterling Tray-can't identify..

Postby lmanper » Tue May 27, 2008 10:24 pm

The mark looks similar to Meriden Brittania - but there is no "M" over the bird and the oval type shapes under are in a different direction. Any thoughts as to the maker would be so greatly appreciated. Also, what does the WW 319 mean? Please forgive my ignorance! Thanks.

Hello Lisa and welcome to the forum.

I believe that is the sterling mark of the Meriden Britannia Company.
The top part with the "M" has worn off, or it was not stamped properly. Have seen this before.
Also, the mark changed slightly over the years.
The 319 is probably a catalog number.
Not sure about the WW mark, might be the owners initials.

Pat - I thank you so much for your response. I will take your opinion and go with that. Glad to have some thoughts of someone more "in the know" than myself. Your site is wonderful and a fantastic resource. Thanks for your efforts and time. I've actually got one more item to identify - I'll post a new topic. Much thanks!
