Can't find this hallmark

Postby vilulf » Sun Feb 10, 2008 10:20 am

Hi I'm Vilulf,
I purchased a weighted Sterling pedestal dish, approx. 6" x 6"

as far as I can tell, reading from right to left, the hallmarks tell me that
this piece is " Sterling" ( the lion) and "1883" ( H in the shield)

The far left hallmark evades me.
It appears to be a weird capital "R" but I can't be certain.
can anyone help?

oops, I forgot to add a picture of the piece itself

the first picture is of the nomenclature on the bottom of the base.

the " E21727 " is hand scribed

Welcome to the forum.

That set of marks was used by the Hunt Silver Company. Check here:

WOW that was fast :-)
thanks Pat, I truly appreciate the information.

So I'm assuming that the "510" is the piece model number, and that the " E21727" would be the serial number

Thanks again.

Hi John-

In this case the lion is just part of the makers mark it is not the british lion passant denoting sterling. Same with the "H" it stands for Hunt and is not a date mark.

You're welcome John. Glad I could help.
The number 510 is the catalog or model number.
Not sure what the other number is.

Pat.
