The Mystery Fork

Postby Jason&Debbie » Sun Nov 18, 2007 11:53 pm

My wife thinks it looks like "a bull riding a wave" and I'm leaning towards a devilish goldfish smoking a cigar...

We are baffled and can't find this mark anywhere...
Ideas??

Always looked like a dragon with a leaf in his mouth to me, but that's the mark for H.H. Curtis & Co. of North Attleboro, Mass. (it usually faces the other direction), they were out of business by 1915. Have never found any pattern names for their production, but your pattern was designed by Sydney A. Keller (assigned to Henry H. Curtis) and issued design patent #D36518 on Aug. 25, 1903.

I looked over and over...

I'm so glad that you were able to ID that. I just looked at the H.H. Curtis mark listed on the 925-1000.com site, and I never would have placed this mark for that.

Then again, the mark on this fork is about 1/8th of an inch square; can't really expect that much detail now can we!

Thanks again...we'll put the devilish bull riding a leaf eating dragon back in the silver case until Thursday, and then use it to serve olives!

Have a great day!

Debbie and Jason
