Unusual Ornate Silver (Plated?) Spoon - Marks?

Postby Mazza » Wed Sep 12, 2007 3:53 am

Hi everyone, I'm new to this, but I hope someone may be able to help me identify the make of this unusual spoon. The bowl of the spoon is 'impressed' with lots of fruit and berries and a scalloped edge (and possibly has a gold wash on it), and the handle is also quite ornate, with a blank crest at the base which looks like it would be for engraving initials. I have seen one very similar on the internet, listed as an early 19thc berry spoon by Smith Tate & Coy, but it is listed as sterling. I cannot decipher the marks at all, and would appreciate any help!

The EPNS mark means Electro-plated Nickel Silver.

Hi, didn't realise the letters were EPNS as the middle ones look like a D and an A!
