Need help to identify sugar/creamer set stamped CORNWALL

Postby MTC » Sun Aug 19, 2007 1:22 pm

Hello. I've got what I believe is a silverplate creamer and sugar set, 3" tall (photos below). On the bottom is stamped the name "Cornwall" and an emblem of an eagle, and the number 6881. I wanted to find some information about the manufacturer and possibly date the set but for some reason cannot find anything about this silver manufacturer online.

Is it possibly a design line called "Cornwall" by another manufacturer whose hallmark is an eagle? Or was Cornwall just a really short-lived manufacturer? Or possibly my research was not thorough enough.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. Cornwall was a trademark of the Middletown Silver Company.
Founded around 1899. In business at least through 1939.

Ah, thank you very much, Pat. I wouldn't have figured that out.

Thanks again!

Hi Pat-

Does that mean it is pewter?

Hello Byran.

I have seen that mark on silverplate before.
They probably used it both on pewter and silverplate.

Hi.

It's definitely silverplate, not pewter. I wondered the same after viewing Pat's post but I guess they used it on both.

Thanks again.
