Hello,
Does anyone have a reference for Irish silversmiths 1845 to 1869? I have a soup tureen retailed by West & son Dublin Ireland. West and son probably contracted a local silversmith to make this tureen to order for a customer. I say this because it doesn't have the usual hallmarks. I believe a piece of silver didn't have to be hallmarked if it wasn't offered for sale, but maybe someone can verify that for me.
The bottom is stamped with West & son Dublin 18 & 19 college green. I read they moved to this address in 1845. I'm not sure, but I think they were at another address by 1869. The photos show the tureen and what I hope is the maker's mark. At first it looks like C.H But looking closer the right corners of the H are rounded off like a B. Could be a combination of the letters C H B or C H R. or CR Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.
