Silverplate?? What country is this from?

Postby SusanWhite » Sun Apr 15, 2007 3:16 am

Hi, Everybody!

We've got a set of strawberry forks (in their original box, no less) but the marks don't make sense to us ... even though the maker's mark is clear as day. The symbol at the top doesn't bring any flashes of recognition, even though we've checked every country and looked at the silverplate info as well.

Any help on figuring these out would be great. It's a terrific set, so Kira may be a bit dispirited if it turns out to be EP ... me, too, but better to know what's what.

Thanks to all of you for the help!

Sincerely,
Susan (Kira & Sis)

Hi Susan, Kira, & Sis.

Sorry, but those are British silverplate marks.
James Deakin & Sons. Sheffield, England (1871-1936).

Hi Susan,
Could be wrong, but I always thought these two tined affairs were called baked potato forks. I think strawberry forks are just like dining forks but much shorter in overall length - 4 to 5 inches - with extra long tines.
Anyone know for sure?

Regards, Tom

Dear Tom,

I have misled you ... not intentionally, of course. I failed to mention that it was approx. 6" in length ... or that it is the "master" fork of the set ... it had the clearest marks. I've attached a photo of the set.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Susan

Hey Susan,
Ah, cool set, never knew about the master. Good to know, thanks for sharing the image.
