Who made it and what is it?

The only mark on this piece is 505. Can a maker, or some other information, be identified from that? Also, what might this have been used for? It measures 4 1/2" long x 3 1/2 wide x 1 3/4 deep. Thanks much.

Hi Deejay,
I think the 505 would probably be a manufacturers pattern number, as for what it is, I should think as it is such a small size that it could maybe be a butter dish,
