I recently went on a search through my vast boxes of TBSL (to be sorted later) silverplate for pieces from the Rogers Crown pattern (1885). I came across two 7-1/2" dinner forks with different monograms. When I placed them side-by-side, I noticed that the "fan" top was wider on one of the forks, and it had two additional designs -- one had 11 and the other had 13. Upon closer inspection, I noticed other minor, but definitely noticeable differences. The fork with 11 designs at the top is marked "* ROGERS & BRO A1 XII" and the other is marked "J.H. HILDEBRAN 12". I thought it was curious that each fork had the number 12 on it, but one was the Roman Numeral XII. Both appear to be 7-1/2" dinner forks.
Has anyone seen this before? Did Hildebran "steal" the Crown design and make his own?
I have taken a few photos and highlighted some of the differences.
Thanks,
Dave
