Sample spoon-SALINA-unknown maker

Post by Traintime »

This makes two of these well-worn Windsor style soda/ice tea spoons surfacing on opposite coasts (the other is a current listing) bearing this unidentified mark and no more. There's a Salina Street in Syracuse where some jewelry firms were located, and the town of Salina Kansas. The City of Salina was a name-train run to this place, but there's no evidence of a link to Union Pacific (the M-10000 streamliner may have had a special service for its' unique equipment, like the Illinois Central's Green Diamond version). Perhaps there is a commercial supplier related to this name, maybe in fountain specialties?

Salina Coffee House (Salina Kansas) was started circa 1947 as an equipment and furnishings provisioner in commercial sector, eventually evolving into the full line supplier Sunflower Restaurant Supply. It could be a possible branding name, but the date seems late as much of this product was moving into unplated stainless steel lines in the postwar period. Not impossible though.

There are around ten Salina place names, not including streets, for the U.S.. Utah is known to have had a CCC camp nearby in the 30's as well as a German P.O.W. hoosegow during the next decade, but seems unlikely to have needed to identify any metal ware of this kind.
