Marks on Rococo Style Candlesticks

Post by Varina »

Can anyone assist with identifying these marks? They seem bogus to me.
I have searched the entire site here and have not found anything similar.
Thanks.

This particular set of marks has always been confusing as it is found with various sets of initials struck at the end, and sometimes with a slight variation with the marks.

The below is the mark of Thomas Wilkinson, the fourth mark being his famous Pelican device. His former manufactory, the Pelican Works, is a well known landmark at Birmingham. Thomas Wilkinson was in business from 1832 until 1932.

Thanks for that insight! So you think this set of marks is likely to be correct.
I see the fifth example you show is very close to mine. If I look at Grimwade, marks 2963 - 2973 are all marks for "T W" with no pellet in between. How would I determine which it might be?

I was thinking that these would be dating around 1760, if there were authentic, so I would look at Thomas Wallis I, Thomas Woodhouse or Thomas Wilson?

These candlesticks are silver plated only.

I see. So these would be properly called silverplate pseudo hallmarks.

Thanks again.
