VIKING HALLMARK

Post by MSKAY12700 »

I've had this peculiar basket/bowl item and never knew what it was.
The hallmark on it is Viking (Helmet Image) V27.
It need some serious cleaning, but I want to find out what it is first, and then explore how to properly clean it.

(I'm new in this forum and can't figure out how to insert/attach photos. )
Thank you

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

As requested, please embed your images.

https://postimages.org (choose 'Share', then copy the 'Hotlink for forums' code) is recommended. Do not use Photobucket or Dropbox.

Hi,

It's not a hallmark, but a maker's mark only, and as it's not marked 'Sterling' or '925', it's a pretty safe assumption that the item is plated.

We have had this one come up before, see: https://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopi ... 7&p=183414

Hopefully your question may help shine some light on this one.

Thank you for the update; it gives me a little more information.
Next I'd like to figure out just what it is. I put a crystal bowl inside it and use it for holiday decorations etc.
Since I didn't do any holidays the past year or so, it got put in the back of a cabinet and got all tarnished up.
How do I clean this ?

Post an image of the basket itself, along with the tarnish question, in the 'Silver Care/Techniques' section of the forum.

I'm sure you'll get some good suggestions.

Thank you very much for the info. This is the mark on my piece.
I got it when I lived in California, and brought it with me when I moved here to PA 20 years ago. I've always liked it and used it with a cut glass bowl in it. I'm going to watch for a cobalt blue bowl.
