Dutch? Unidentified Marks

Post by dartsil »

Hello all,

I wonder if anyone could possibly identify the marks on this piece which I am guessing would be for holding coins?

I am putting in the Dutch section as the decoration looks Dutch but I dare say it could be German, any help with marks would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Colin

Hi Collin,

Indeed a so called "Dutch scenery" What are the sizes? Is it made out of silver? Perhaps cigar or glasses case? Marks or Initials?

Hi Peter,

To small for either of those jobs, it measures 91mm in length, the end surface measures 33x29mm and it weighs 48g

It takes British £2 coins standing up, only had two to hand so not enough to fill it and they are just a bit to small, maybe a Dutch coin slightly bigger would fit snuggly?

Any idea what the marks are, as in does it give anything away as to the age, maker or purity?

Regards,
Colin

OK a coin holder not sure if it is made out of silver. I have no clue about the (designer)marks or initials.

No problem, hopefully someone will recognise, I am sure I have seen these marks or something similar before but can not recall what they were.

The whale/shark mark of Danish silverplate manufacturer Hans Jensen, it's often found with the marks of various importers and/or retailers - if I recall correctly, this piece is a cigarette case...
