Good evening
I have this fork ( and a spoon somewhere) with the date letter for 1861 used on Christofle silver plated cutlery. It is only mark 61 and 4. It is in their "Filet" (or "Chinon") pattern.
Why would and other marks be missing?

Christofle plated fork without full marks
Re: Christofle plated fork without full marks
Hello, one of the reasons might be that this was made for a retailer/seller who wanted to claim this as his own product and would not want the mark of the actual maker to be on the pieces. In Germany this was quite a common practice and to my knowledge it was also done in other countries. Regards, Bahner
