Reed & Barton - "The Saxony" in script on hand

Postby azureozma » Tue Jul 19, 2005 3:19 pm

Hi - I have a spoon that has "REED & BARTON" stamped on the back but on other hallmarks. The spoon pattern has an Art Deco style and on the end of the handle written in script is "THE SAXONY". I think it may have been from a hotel service. Can anyone tell me anything about this? I believe it's silver - when I did a nitric acid test it turned the spot creamy - but I'm by no means an expert. Thanks! ImageImage

There was a Saxony Hotel in Miami Beach, which was an Art Deco era hotel-that would match the spoon's Art Deco style. The hotel was known as the "Queen of Collins Avenue" in the '50's, and is now being converted to condominiums.

The spoon is silverplated.
