I purchased this salt glaze ceramic bottle, the bottle shape dates it to circa 1850. It has this metal overlay decoration in silver or pewter. The lion mark makes me wonder if this is silver? The previous owner described it as a Dutch gin bottle with pewter overlay (Netherlands, Holland). A little research shows it could also be a seltzer bottle–which kind of makes sense if the bottle was to be refilled and used repeatedly.
The main mark shows G W on either side of a plant or tree with spade shaped leaves in a shield stamp.
The lion is reared up on his hind legs and has the initials I C also in a shield stamp.
There is an acorn in a shield stamp.
There is a goose inside a shield stamp with initials T S.
The fifth mark is a person with four initials H C I S.
Any ideas where this came from or who could have made it?
Thanks for viewing.
