Silver (plated?) Bottle

I got this bottle from my aunt and she asked me if I could find out what it was, when it was made, if it is partly real silver or all plated, who made it, etc.















I hope some one can help me with this, if you need more pictures I will make and share them.

So what you're saying is IFS and another S could mean "I Fool Somebody, Sometimes".....but you can't fool everybody all the time...and in this case, they could not fool Trev even once!

Hi, it is a hot water bottle. In the past the bottle was filled with warm water and the warm pewter /metal bottle was put in a woolen bag and placed in the cradle next to the baby .

Would the bottle of my aunt be of the same age?

The bottle on eBay has a different mark and can't find any info on IFS.

On the cap there is also a C or G or half moon mark.

My aunt is a baroness from a family with lots of history and the daughter of a baron that lives in a house from 1610 in which they start living in the 1800's.
Would be intersting if it is from the house.

Looking at those dates it could be from the house and maybe even used to warm one on the many children born in the house.

Is it anything special in general, were they made by request by JFS or were there many made in "production runs"?
Are there many left or are they rare?

Your welcome. Just Google Jan Francis Schutjes and you will find some of the pewter items made by him, including auction results. You have a good looking hot water bottle made by a well known maker. Not rare but very nice and a true antique.

After some searching I indeed saw that those bottles were not very rare and used everywhere, until there was central heating.

There are pieces of the maker in several museums, so the maker is well known.

It probably is not worth a lot of money (looking at prices for the same sort of bottles form the same period but by different makers and items from JFS sold at auctions), but I think my aunt will probably put it somewhere in the old house, were it probably belongs.

It indeed is very nice (and very heavy)
