Any assistance identifying object appreciated

Postby MattmattNZ » Fri Sep 20, 2019 7:05 am

Hi All,

Matt from New Zealand here.

I was wondering if anyone could confirm that this object was indeed intended to be used as a photo frame?

I believe it's plated, manufactured by George Shadford Lee & Henry Wigfull - it's marked "L & W S", followed by a "P"(perpendicular to the previous), and has the number 407.

The edges are lightly serrated.

I haven't removed the glue on the back yet - if anyone knows of a silver-safe chemical that would soften it any advice here would be great too!\\

Any opinions or assistance appreciated :-)

Best Regards
Matt NZ

Hi Matt,

Welcome to the Forum.

https://postimages.org (choose 'Share', then copy the 'Hotlink for forums' code) is recommended.

Remember to use the Preview feature, if you cannot see the images, then neither can we.

Hi,
What glue ? Where ? The photo is very nice and old.Do not destroy it.
Can you show the back of the frame and the way the picture is fixed behind the glass ?
Regards

Hi - Thank you for your reply!

Yes have just uploaded 2 more images.

There's no glass - it looks like it in my photo but the old photo has been lacquered.

For some reason there's glue on the back - more visible in the pic just posted.

So I'm not sure if this item was intended to be used for something else, and has been re-purposed as a photo holder.

Yes - I'll leave the photo as - is - it adds so much character!

Once again, thank you for your reply!

Matt
