Unknown Hallmarks

Postby swschultz » Sat Jul 28, 2018 6:28 am

I recently acquired two large bowl-type plates that are hallmarked. I have absolutely no idea what the hallmarks represent. I'm sure that I'm posting to the wrong area. I wish that there was a section titled something such as "unknown", but currently this doesn't exist. Please forgive my posting to the wrong place. I realize that the hallmarks are hard to read. Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
IMHO this is pewter. The metal, being much softer, is easily distinguished from silver or silverplate.

Hi,

I agree with AG2012, they are pewter marks.

Thanks for the confirmation on the material. I guess I’m truly posting in the wrong place. Any thoughts on where I can attempt to get these marks deciphered?

Thanks again,

Scott

Crowned X was British quality mark on pewter in XVIII century.
