I have an old cream jug that has the words Sheffield Plate 864 on the bottom. On the side are what looks like the initials, in script, of either AG or CG... it is hard to tell. No other markings anywhere. Can anyone tell me who made this and possible the year span? I have pictures that I would like to upload BUT it won't let me Upload them! Thank you

Thank you for the help! I used as suggested and resized the images for message board by the option they gave me, so I hope these are ok.

Hi ~ welcome to the forums.

Unless you find pieces in the same pattern with a manufacturer's trademark, or can find it in a reference, determining the maker is unlikely. By style, it would date from the late 19th century into the first couple of decades of the 20th - most likely toward the end of that window, when 'Sheffield Plate' was a common marketing term for some American silverplate manufacturers. While some pieces were silverplate on copper and were 'Reproductions' of Old Sheffield Plate, they were not fused plate, and this piece, which appears to worn silverplate on Britannia metal, has little to do with Sheffield Plate at all, despite the stamp. The clip below, showing a set of similar form and decoration, is from a 1901 retailer's catalog:

There is one slim chance of a maker, there was one New York company who used that name in their title:

I've no idea if this outfit had any connection with your mark though.
