Redfield and Rice coin silver goblet/trophy-age?

Postby seansaved » Sat Sep 02, 2006 2:40 pm

I believe this is coin silver, as there seems to be a coin with the maker information embedded in the base. Any ideas on age?

Renfield & Rice had different names during it's history which helps us date your piece:

Dater, Bray & Company................1854
Bray, Redfield & Company.............1854-1856
Bancroft, Redfield & Rice................1856-1863
REDFIELD & RICE..........................1863-1865
Redfield & Rice Mfg. Company........1866-1872.

Coin silver is a term that refers to the fineness of the silver, .900. Sterling silver is a fineness of .925.
As far as I know Redfield & Rice only produced silverplated items. They often bought holloware pieces from Reed & Barton and then silverplated them.
