Need help with a mark - crown, S & shield

Hey all :D

I bought this two years ago at an estate sale and I've since been trying to determine the mark. It isn't hard to read - I just can't find the thing! I even purchased a book of silver marks, but it's not there either. I tried to get a pic of the mark, but the one below is the best I could get with my current cam... so, I also drew (very crudely LOL!) the mark as well. I would appreciate any help you can give me - I've been all over the web, etc. looking for this mark. It's matter of satisfying my curiosity and not letting the mark win. LOL

The tray needs a good cleaning - I haven't cleaned it yet and I'm not sure if I should. Does cleaning it decrease the value of silver plated items? Thanks for any help you can give me!

The drawing of my mark is off size-wise. The right part with the shield is the same size as the left part with the crown in the actual mark, with the S being taller.

Sheridan Silver Co. of Taunton, Mass., incorporated in 1946, not sure if still in business. Use a mild silver polish, definitely needs it!

Thanks, Cheryl! Now that I know I can try and find some info on it. It was stuck in a box with some other things I bought at the auction. You have been a great help. Why didn't I post here sooner? LOL.. I spent days looking for this mark. =)
