Hi All,

Here is 3 pieces tea set by WMF
I kindly ask for some info about manufucturing date,
sugar bowl marked WMFN
Milk jug marked WMFN
tea jug marked GEISLINGEN

Bit strange to me why one piece from set is marked different?

Any help is welcome

Hi Tomas,

I/O is the code for WMF's regular silver plating

The 'N' indicates Nickel Silver, this would be the base metal.

'GEISLINGEN' is the home town of WMF, perhaps this mark was applied to larger pieces - just guessing.

The '7/10 L' and '1 1/10L' I presume refers to the liquid capacity.

Trev.

FWIW... The four-letter marks indicating base metal (viz., WMFN for nickel silver, WMFM for brass, and WMFB for Britannia metal) were used from 1880 up to WWI, which is consistent with the set not being found in the 1925/26 or 1937 WMF catalogs. However, it's not found in the 1906 catalog, either. My guess would be that it's earlier.

A rather rare mark used for a short time.(1901-1903g) It consists of the one-word inscription "GEISLINGEN" of 6.7 mm length.
Best regards.
