could this be dutch

Postby blonde_minx » Wed Mar 11, 2015 8:42 pm

Hi I have this very unusual silver egg cup which has i believe has a locust attached to the outside, the hallmarks are just on the top edge of the cup, could this be dutch, it appears to be a prancing lion facing right, though a little rubbed on the edge looks to have a number one next to it, the other mark i have never seen before, could anyone help with this mark and maybe a date
Thanks in advance
Mandy

Hi Mandy,

I agree with Oel, these marks are typical of French silver-plater's marks.

To understand the '2g' mark, see: http://www.925-1000.com/a_platenumbers.html

Indeed it is, but the maker is unknown to me.
