Hi all,

I was searching for mark A1000 in this forum but I didn't find to much, so I have to post my own A1000 pot. Curiously A1000 is the only mark I can find on it. I see I am not the only one. Here I also read that it is an italian mark for stainless steel but I am pretty sure my piece is silver. So, I drop my pics for your consideration ... Is there any way to know who made that ... and when?

You can often find in Italy pieces with marks Arg.1000, Arg. 800, A 1000 and the like.
They are all plated.
It 'better that you do check whether it is solid silver.

Hi Amena,

I think it is solid silver but my eye is not that trained. I see no scratch or typical damage when plated. I still wonder why Italians weren't more explicit with marking. A1000 seems to me a quality control mark regarding silver content. Right? And that's it? I have other items that only say "italy". They are also good looking and from the same collection - what make me feel sure they are old - but again, lacking useful marks for dating and manufacturer's detail. :(

Could be Alpac for Alpacca

HI hose_dk,

I didn't clean it completely yet but i did some rubbing with a piece of fabric + zinc oxide and it became shinny as silver does, besides i feel it heavy. It Could be alpaca but I doubt it because that pot is part of a collection where everything is silver ... or porcelain. Real deals. Anyway i don't know how alpaca looks after rubbing. Is it that shinny ?

yes its an substitute for silver.
