silver fruit knives and forks - Can't identify marks

Postby tafdl1 » Mon Feb 17, 2014 7:53 pm

Hi, can anyone help with identification of these marks. The marks from left to right read S.E in and oval, an ampersand, then an S in a circle, then a hexagon with what could be a fox?? then a circle with a B. The knives don't bear any marks - just the forks. Thanks in anticipation.

Could be Samuel Evans, similar mark here (but not the same): http://www.silvercollection.it/electrop ... e.html#EVA

Possibly Samuel Evans & Sons of Birmingham. They are recorded here as having used the peculiar symbol in the hexagon and electroplaters frequently used the initial of their town (in this case B) as part of their mark.

Wow thank-you both for your quick reply and they mark in the hexagon definitely matches as it is clearer on some of the other forks - so not a fox at all!. So the knives and forks are obviously silver-plated then, but any way I can find out the age?, Cheers
