I am researching this coffee urn and the marks have me completely stumped! It appears to me to be a early 20th century design, possibly 1910s because of the finial, but other may think it's late 1800s. It feels like solid silver (800-925), smells like silver and has no plate bleeding through. There are a few gouges in the rim and under a loupe there was no obvious base metal. It measures 18" x 10" x 9" and has an ivory insulator (not bone or plastic, it is definitely ivory).
The hallmarks remind me of Hanau, but I can't find anything that matches in Tardys or in my German book on Hanau silver or online. Also, the quality of the manufacture appears much better than Hanau I've seen. My gut is telling me its sterling (or 800) and European, but of course I need to rule out silverplate. The marks will hopefully tell the story.
Thank you! Kirsten
