WMF Lady in a pond

Assistance would be appreciated.

I have recently inherited a WMF 'Lady in a pond' tray.

From my research I have discovered (unless I am mistaken)

Ox - Oxide
B - Britannia Metal
WMF Ostrich - bottom square with lines and the top semi-circle is flat.

I have two questions:

1 - On the bottom there is a raised number 229. What does this represent?
2 - In very fine detail above the 229 there is what appears to be Z808Z/7. Very fine print that appears to be done by hand and it is my opinion that his inscription has been done prior to any plating. Any ideas on what this is?

Hi Brad,

I believe your findings so far are correct.

The '229' will refer to a pattern/batch/order number for internal use. The scratched numbers are likely to be a later addition, the plating quality on WMF products was very good and it may appear to be below, rather than above the plating.

We do have a member with a fine knowledge of WMF products, hopefully your topic will be seen and followed up with far better information.

Is that another mark below the others in your lower image?

Good evening Trev,

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. You are correct, below the Ox, B and ostrich is a small mark that appears to be a little letter c. Google couldn't help me with this one either.

Regards,

Brad

The number 229 refers to the catalog number. The image below is from page 167 of WMF's 1906 English catalog, Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork from Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik:
