Need help again

Postby larrywseale » Thu Dec 19, 2013 2:00 pm

Help with a modern carving set that has tiny marks, pics are the limit of my camera's (& my) ability.

The stamps look like 90 in a square, 27 in a diamond & import on one side, doesn't match any thing I can find, & WMF in a cartouche on the other:

WURTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWARENFABRIK?

I prefer not to use acid to test it so is it plate or .900 silver?

Standard process (90 grams for 12+12) & 27 grams to coat the pair?

Hi Larry,

Yes, plated. See: http://www.925-1000.com/a_platenumbers.html I'm not sure as to how much plating is on the pair, 27 grams sounds a lot to me.

That import mark is a new one on me, interesting!

As Bahner wrote in his comprehensive explanation -you provided the link-, for pieces usually coming in a dozen, the second number is the silver weight applied to 12 pieces. The handles are for sure standard handles, also used for table knives. So the 27 is the silver applied to 12 handles. Therefore one handle is plated with a bit more than 2 gram silver,

Kind regards

Jörg

Hi Jörg,

Thanks for clarifying that.
