Hello Everyone,
I have just found this tray but I know very little about silver markings. I have tried to find info about this item but I cannot seem to anything about these particular markings. Is anyone able to tell me about them? I am unsure if the tray is sterling or plated and the date. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi

Your piece is Silverplate. Try this site - http://www.antiquesilverspoons.co.uk/canteenmakers.htm - for examples of the Elkington & Co plate & sterling marks, plus a brief history of the famous firm. Plate items are not dated with specific date letters - generally you are have to assess the style of the piece. I'm not sure if Elkington & Co used specific date letters on their Silverplate pieces - often, if enough information is found, a piece can be semi dated from the period in which it was produced (i.e. as a particular model).
