Hermes Paris Letter opener

Postby Gothdom » Sun Oct 20, 2013 10:53 pm

Hi!
I have this Hermes Paris letter opener..
Now, I worked out that the makers mark is Ravinet D'Enfert, but beyond that I am stumped.
Silverplate?
Silver?
When was it made?

I've been searching for this with no end in sight, making me one very tired lady.

SO, I come here in the hopes that the collective knowledge here will be able to point me in the right direction!
Thanks,
Dominique

Hi Welcome to the forums,

If the letter opener lacks any French silver hallmarks and the maker's mark is in a square, not a lozenge, the letter opener could well be silver-plated and perhaps made around 1950-1960

The makers mark looks pretty much identical to the one on this page:

In a square instead of a diamond.

This is the mark, as best as I could get a picture.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That is indeed one of the marks used by Ravinet D'Enfert. See: http://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_R.html

Is there any way to date a piece from the maker's mark?
even a ballpark estimate?
