Do I have a silver or silverplated spoon

Postby MellyB » Tue Aug 13, 2013 9:14 am

Hi. I have a small marmalade spoon? With letters saying
R P then a mark that looks like 2 axes behind a square shield? Then letter L with a capital NS at the end and was just wondering if it was Nickel plated silver spoon if so would it have a hallmark?
I would add a picture but can't figure out how to do it?

NS can mean the piece is made entirely of nickel silver, which of course is not silver, at all, but an alloy of copper (usually 60% copper, 20% nickel, and 20% zinc), which has a "silvery" appearance. Or, NS can mean that nickel silver was the base metal and the item is silverplated. It will be necessary to identify the manufacturer and understand their marking system to know which, and which is the reason images of the spoon and its marks are needed.
