Mystery Teapot - Any info most gratefully appreciated!

Postby Snaparoo » Thu Aug 09, 2012 11:03 am

Hi, just wondering if anyone could help with info about my "mystery" teapot.

It's quite heavy, and stands approx 10cm (or 4 inches) high excluding the height of the knob on the lid, and is approx 28cm (or 11 inches) from tip of spout to back of handle. The base carries a number of numerical marks, a pictorial mark (a comparatively large-ish beaver) and some makers marks and more, I think.

Here are some pics:

I would really appreciate any info about this item if anyone has any ideas about when it was made and who it was made by.
Many thanks.

Hello,

This surely has to be one of the Maxfield family. Joshia Maxfield was the most well-known, and used that beaver mark, he was working at the end of the 19th century. Very likely to be Joshia's predecessor or successor, and going by the style of the piece, I think this may be the earlier of the two.
