Superior Dutch Silver Horse Head Hallmark

Postby mrcherry14 » Tue Apr 24, 2012 2:53 pm

Hello:

I was wondering if anyone was familiar with the markings below. All it says is "Superior Dutch Silver" and with what looks to be like a left facing horse head hallmark. The pieces have what I would call a country motif to them. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Justin

Hello ,

Not Dutch silver, it lacks Dutch hallmarks; http://www.925-1000.com/Fnetherlands_Date_Code.html

I believe it to be American and not made out of silver but perhaps pewter. Superior outch Silver or make believe.

Best,

Oel

I was just wondering if you ever figured anything out on this? My husband and I picked up the exact same thing at a yard sale this summer and we can't seem to find anything except this post.

Until there is a definite answer, you might look at International Silver which absorbed Wilcox which absorbed Superior. ("Dutch silver " would apply to pewter as "German silver " would represent nickel-silver, a base metal with no actual silver.) Wilcox did make pewter and perhaps Superior may have been engaged in that too. Sorry I don't have an actual pewter reference to help you with this. Good luck.
