Salt shakers, individual. Japan, “SC” Hallmark.

Is it S. Cottle and Company?

Thanks for visiting my question, I’m hoping to get a little help here.

You will find with my post several pictures of the salt and pepper shakers in questions. I have no idea if they’re silver or not as they’re not marked. Believe they may be old, though Halle’s store didn’t close down until 1982, so they might be “recent old.”

I searched the site, several other sites, the other forums, and I’ve hunted eBay. The best I can find is on this website, and the hallmark is similar to the one for S. Cottle and Company, http://www.925-1000.com/ax_CottleS.html though the print is finer, and appears to be etched rather than stamped. They don’t smell like old silver plate, so they’re either a pretty fake silver or real silver. They’re really interesting, as they’re weighted in the bottom so they stand up. (they remind me a little of a weeble.)

The more info you can give me the better. I’m still trying to research S. Cottle and Company, but if one of you experts out there could eliminate them for me so I don’t keep barking up the wrong tree, that’d be appreciated. (I’m questioning it right off the bat because of the “Japan” printed below the hallmark.) There are no markings inside the shakers, I checked to be sure.

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I know very little about Cottle, so I will leave that for others to express their views, but in the meantime, there was a prolific silverware company based in Tokyo, by the name of Silver Craft(s) during the mid 20th century. It may be worth some research in that direction.

sorry link in danish. Piet Hein used the superelipse in his design. Could this be a plagiat of Piet Hein?
