Please help identify the marks!

Postby Lynne Lund » Thu Dec 01, 2011 2:09 am

My friend (88 yrs old) says these pieces belonged to her mother. There are several serving pieces as well as place setting pieces. She grew up in Norway and suspected they were from there. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

The teapot mark is a trade mark for Hans Hohle in Oslo Norway. He was born 1864 and died 1935. He marked 1897-1935. However, the marks left of the teapot are a bit strange, they do not look like silver marks (e.g. 830S) but ??? Let's wait a while...

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

I beleive the 'GP' may well stand for ''Gullsmed Plett''.

The '60' is a likely indicator of the amount of silver deposited. See: http://www.925-1000.com/a_platenumbers.html

Hi,

I also thought the G P could be plated but the pieces really look, feel, (and don't laugh!) smell like sterling. The mark between them looks like a box with a bow on top. Does anyone know what that is? i really appreciate all of the help! Thanks!

Lynne
