Hi everyone, not sure I am in the right section but as my ancestors are Scottish, I thought I would start here.
Can anyone help me identify these marks please?
Thanks in advance
Steven

Hi Steven,

Welcome to the Forum.

Your mark image is too small for indentification, please post a larger photo.

That's a silver plater's mark used by Boardman, Glossop & Co. of Sheffield.

Thanks for that Trev

Do you know what the 8030 means? Is that just a production number? We can't identify a year that it was made from these marks can we?

Thanks
Steven

The '8030' would be a pattern or batch number used by Boardman, Glossop & Co.

As far as I'm aware, that mark was used at the end of the 19th century. Boardman, Glossop & Co. were bought out by Frank Cobb & Co. of Sheffield in the mid 1920's.

Just to add a piece of trivia, Boardman and his wife were found dead in bed, the victims of gas poisoning, in 1912. They were aged 77 and 78 respectively.

Wow, there you go, thanks for that. The dining set was presented to my Great Great Grandparents in 1890 on the celebration of their marriage so was made before that obviously. It's quite an heirloom!

Kind regards
