silver tatevin markings... what do they mean?

Postby rynegold » Thu Jun 16, 2011 6:36 pm

Another item today I paid little for; but like:

mark just so:

Says "metal argente" in one box (silver metal) and has a "4" and an unidentified roundish "something up in the right hand corner of said square.... What I'm looking at on the outside at least is silver... but what's underneath?

Hello, looks like a modern French plate mark. What you see in the square is likely a "4 Gr" for the weight of silver used for plating. Best wishes, Bahner
