Need Help Identifying Hallmark "F S Co" on Silverp

Postby laurienguyen » Sat Dec 17, 2005 3:08 am

I recently aquired a small silverplate tray with a hallmark stamped on the back. Someone mentioned that it might be PIlgrim Sterling, but I cannot find any information to confirm that. I appreciate any assistance you can provide. :)

Laurie,
Try Birmingham Silver Company, and American silver manufacturer from Connecticut. They made silverplate (silver over copper) from 1940 to about 1964 and their stamp was a large crown followed by the letters BSC or BSCo, then a small REG underneath. Sometimes the words "SILVER OVER COPPER" appear above the markings.

I just had a similar tea set/tray with indistinguishable markings that turned out to be this company. When the letters begin to wear off, they don't look anything like the originals!

Good luck.
Mia
